Lincoln Mentors

Job Description

The Lincoln Mentors Coordinator oversees the development and implementation of the mentoring program, ensuring program quality and performance relative to mentor recruitment and retention, screening, matching, monitoring and supporting the relationship between the mentor and the mentee.  Additionally, the Lincoln Mentors Coordinator facilitates fund raising, community relations and assuring the use of best practices within the program.

Our goal is to have Lincoln Mentors underway in March 2014 with 5 matches between community members and elementary students.  Initially, the Coordinator position will be a 5-hour per week position, increasing as the program grows.  The program will grow to 8-10 matches during the 2014-2015 school year. 

We are seeking a candidate with skills and experience which would allow for successfully fulfilling the following duties.  Specific training and support will be provided.  The rate of pay is $20- $25 per hour.


  1. Perform and oversee mentor screening, orientation, training and matching
  2. Support and supervise mentors
  3. Develop and manage relationships with schools, human services organizations and community based groups for mentee referrals
  4. Arrange for space in school where matches meet
  5. Work with principal and teachers to identify best times for students to meet
  6. Ensures that background checks, driving record checks and reference checks for mentors are completed through ANESU
  7. Maintain confidential files on mentees and mentors, including background checks
  8. Conduct mentor interviews and reference checks
  9. Maintain and monitor monthly match contact information
  10. Assist in creating and overseeing implementation of ongoing mentor recruitment plan
  11. Assist in planning and implementation of recognition events for program participants
  12. Assist in creating and overseeing implementation of a communications plan including press releases
  13. Assist in creating and overseeing implementation of annual program plan
  14. Oversee program evaluation including annual satisfaction surveys
  15. Commit to the Core Standards and work towards Elements of Effective Practice (provided)
  16. Arrange for or conduct mentor training
  17. Maintain data base of contacts, matches, and mentees
  18. Responsible for mentor recognition
  19. Monitor match closure activities
  20. Work with team and Principal Tory Riley and Lincoln MentorsAdvisory Board on overall mentoring activities, including grant-writing and fundraising
  21. Oversee adherence to mentoring programs policies and procedures
  22. Work with Principal Tory Riley and Lincoln Mentors Advisory Board  to maintain and update Policy and Procedures as needed
  23. Assure program evaluation and utilize results to improve program quality and effectiveness
